All your coffee are belong to Gabe!

Location: The Cravat
Time: N/A. (Though for all intents and purposes it is morning.)

This morning, as with many mornings, Gabe's first thought was one word. This one word was 'coffee.' He carefully extricated himself from his and Jeannot's bed, making sure not to wake his love as he did. He left the room quietly and went down the stairs, looking for any new room, hopefully one containing a coffee-maker and some grounds. As luck ((or possibly the BC's inherent MKCSR powers)) would have it, the first room he decided to explore was the kitchen, the coffee-maker on the counter like a gift from G-d. He only had to look through two cupboards before finding the coffee grounds and cups, and he set about making it, humming Chelsea Hotel #2 very loudly to himself. Once done, he sat upon the counter, impatiently watching it percolate.

Holmes laughed out loud. "Well, he is known for his excellent aim, not only with a shoe but with a gun. Hopefully he isn't that angry, though."

((Wow. I read that as "superexcellent aim" and did a double take.))

"Hopefully not, because if he is," Gabe warned, "I'm not sticking around to disarm him, and if he hurts Jean I will hurt you." He smiled, though he wasn't really joking. "On that note, you lose pistol privileges the second you start going through withdrawal. We don't want you shooting anyone, yourself included."

(Hahaha! Oh my God, I think Holmes needs to use the phrase, "Superexcellent aim," someday. Somehow.))

"Oh, yes," Holmes groaned, beginning to regain something of his good humor. "That, I am quite looking forward to." He shrugged wryly. "It will mostly likely do me good."

((I think we should just replace 'excellent' with 'superexcellent' every time one of them tries to say it.))

"Oh, probably," Gabe agreed. "But that doesn't mean it's not going to be nasty. Hopefully Watson's medical profession will force him to stop throwing shoes at you at least long enough hold your head over the toilet." He fully intended never to let the Left Shoe Incident die.

((A superexcellent idea.))

"Amusement swells unabashedly in my breast," Holmes groused, returning to the coffee. "I assume you're going to start referring to it as the Left Shoe Incident, and then never let me forget it, aren't you?"

"I am now," Gabe admitted. "You're gotta admit that it's pretty funny, especially since it's Doctor John fucking Watson we're talking about. Not just any man throwing shoes at his ex-boyfriend, no." He laughed, shaking his head. "It's Doctor John Watson throwing shoes at The Great Sherlock Holmes." He was pretty sure it would never actually stop being funny, though he managed to quiet his laughter.

"It wasn't shoes, plural," Holmes disagreed vehemently, "it was shoe, singular."

"It would've been both if you hadn't run away so quick," Gabe replied. "Did he hit you, by the way? With his 'superexcellent aim'?" He wasn't sure why he'd said 'superexcellent.' It had seemed like the thing to do.

"He did not," Holmes said, not without pride. "Superexcellent though his aim may be." He frowned. "Superexcellent? What does that mean?"

"It seems pretty self-explanatory, to me," Gabe said, swinging his legs over the counter, much like a small child. He glanced over at the door, slightly impatient. His impatience is another way he's much like a small child. "Hopefully Jeannot is up there talking some sense into the Good Doctor." He smiled. "After all, we haven't heard the right shoe hit the wall, have we?"

"No, that we haven't," Holmes agreed, "although the fact that he has not arrived downstairs already does not speak towards his stability either."

"True," Gabe muttered, hopping down from the counter. "Though maybe Jean is trying to talk some sense into him. They seemed to have been getting along pretty well yesterday. Maybe it'll work."

"Perhaps." Holmes was looking worried, though. "A silence of this duration, though. . ." He paused, and as if on cue, which was exactly what it was, there came a muffled shout from upstairs. "And it is a problem! I'm married, and I love her, and besides it isn't possible and I really. . ." Watson's voice quieted, becoming gradually inaudible. Holmes's eyebrows hit his hairline.

((I think we, the Authors, should shamelessly manipulate acoustics [and/or the laws of space, time, physics, and The Universe] at every possible opportunity. Or any time it would be funny or useful, at least.))

Gabe resisted the urge to laugh very nobly. He raised his coffee mug, solemn."I propose a toast," he said, intending no pun, "both to Jean and his people-skills, and to Watson and his shouting."

Holmes raised his own mug, his face still faintly shocked. "Indeed. Watson and his shouting. Did I tell you of the time he made a lady believe her house was on fire?"

Gabe began to take a sip and laughed as he did, coffee spilling a little. "No," he said, attempting to recover his dignity. "Though I can imagine it. It was on purpose, I assume?"

"Yes," said Holmes, his mouth beginning to broaden into an almost affectionate smile. "I needed her to believe her house was on fire, you see. He's the most incredibly loyal man you'd ever meet, you could tell him to shout fire in a crowded street and if he thought your cause was just, he'd do it." Holmes paused contemplatively for a moment. "Of course, that's exactly what I told him to do."

"Of course," Gabe agreed, taking another sip. "I'll admit I've never shouted fire in a crowded street, nor a movie theatre. I've always felt it was one of life's smaller criminal activities that I missed in my misguided youth." He laughed. "Misguided adulthood, too, I suppose."

Jan. 30th, 2007 01:31 am (UTC)
"Criminal activities?" Holmes half laughed, half winced. "I didn't hear that, remember. Your misguided youth and adulthood fill me with the moralistic pain of the British law enforcement. But then, you are American. I wash my hands of it." The joke was lost, though, as he glanced nervously upstairs, still unsure of exactly what Watson's shout might signify.

Gabe saw Holmes' nervous glance. "Don't worry," he said, softly. "He'll probably come down and act like nothing at all happened." He smiled. "Though he may apologize for the Left Shoe Incident."

"Oh, he will," Holmes laughed. "He'll feel awful about it. Malice isn't in his nature." He sighed, although unsentimentally. "I am fond of him."

Gabe shook his head. "Just 'fond'?" he asked. "Somehow I think you're understating that."

Jan. 30th, 2007 03:53 am (UTC)
"All right, more than fond," Holmes conceded, wrinkling his nose. "'Extremely fond.' Or maybe 'possessive.'" It was not totally impossible that Holmes was running Gabe around in circles for his own enjoyment.

"Just so long as that's not your main arguing point when you try to get him to leave his wife for you," Gabe replied, and laughed at the image of a very distressed Holmes informing an equally distressed Watson that he is very 'possessive' of him. "You'd probably get something else hurled at your head, probably something more dangerous, and probably more on target."
