Holmes and Watson, sitting in a tree

Location: The Cravat
Time: Still morning, presumably

((Sigerson has given permission for his boys to be walked-in-on. Heh.))

Jeannot followed Gabe down the hall, a bit reluctant to disturb Holmes and Watson, whatever they might have been doing. Still, he was hungry, and the Victorians had had the kitchen all to themselves for quite a long time. Jeannot stood patiently by while Gabe knocked on the kitchen door, waiting to see what was happening.

There was no answer from inside, and Jeannot shrugged after a moment. "They have gone somewhere else, I suppose," he told his love, relaxing a bit at the thought of not having to face Holmes if they had interrupted the pair in serious conversation (or serious anything, really), and blithely opened the door.

Jeannot was greeted by a scene such as would scorch the retinas of Arthur Conan Doyle. It was not a particularly deviant scene as such scenes go, seeing as both of its players were Victorians to their core, but it remained quite sacrilegious. Holmes was pressing Watson into the corner where the countertops met. Watson's hands had found their way up the back of Holmes's shirt, and seemed to be simply assuring him of his friend's physical presence.

They were kissing slowly, gently, as though they had all the time in the world.

((Aww... they're adorable. <3))

Jeannot stopped in his tracks, seeing the two Englishmen so involved in one another. After an initial moment of startled staring, Jeannot relaxed and grinned, pleased that Watson had managed to communicate to Holmes what had been on his mind. Jeannot squeezed Gabe's hand and smiled up at his love before coughing discreetly to get the Victorians' attention, politely fixing his gaze on the floor.

Holmes noticed the cough immediately, whipping 'round out of years old paranoia and fear of discovery. Watson gave a cry of shock, then stood with his arms hanging limp and immobile at his sides. The detective regained himself first, pulling his shirt straight and clearing his throat. "Well," he said, still slightly shaken. "Now we are even. I have seen you both unclothed, and you have seen me flagrantly violating British law."

Gabe hadn't been particularly shocked by what they'd walked in on. He'd been expecting it, really. However, he had to work rather hard to contain his laughter at Holmes' reaction. After a moment in which he was very carefully Not Laughing, he shook his head. "It's not as though we'd blackmail you," he said. "Not after all our hard work."

Jeannot shook his head seriously, looking especially at Watson, who seemed more than a little discombobulated ((I couldn't think of another word for this. Sorry.)). "We could not," he reassured his friend, and slipped his arm around Gabe's waist to remind them of why not. Jeannot smiled at Watson. "Everything is all right, then?" he asked softly.

Watson swallowed and nodded, then unexpectedly put his own arm around Holmes's waist. Holmes turned, surprised to him, but the doctor only smiled. "Yes," Watson replied. "Everything is all right."

Holmes looked gratefully at Gabe. "Thank you," he mouthed, as subtly as possible. Watson pretended politely not to notice.

Gabe simply smiled back at Holmes and nodded, curbing the urge to say "I told you so." He noted slightly crankily that the two Victorians stood between him and the coffee pot. His mug was near them as well. He sighed. "Can you pour me some more coffee?" he requested. "My mug is the one with the fractal. Slightly to your left."

The two man glanced at each other, unwilling to seperate. Finally, Holmes affectionately rolled his eyes, slipped out of Watson's hold, and reached out for the coffee pot and mug. The doctor looked slightly wryly at Jeannot and Gabe, and shrugged. "Did you sleep well?" he enquired, ever the polite one.

Jeannot grinned. "We did," he answered for both of them, looking up at Gabe with a smile and a squeeze of the arm around his love's waist. He glanced around the kitchen, feeling more content now to be here. "I like it better here now than yesterday," he told them, "although it is quite solemn-looking, isn't it?" He glanced at Holmes uncertainly. "If we are to be here for long," he said carefully, trying not to say anything that would provoke the detective, of whom he was still wary, "with little else to do, would it be permitted to paint the walls, M. Holmes?"

"Oh, certainly," Holmes replied, a slight grin on his face at Jeannot's continuing formality. "I have no objection to art. My great grandfather, in fact, was a French painter, much like yourself." He paused, drumming his fingers on the counter. "I fear I may have been rude to you, M. Bonnaire. You are free to drop my honorific, if you please." He allowed himself a real smile. "You certainly seem to have assisted certain causes of mine."

"Indeed," Watson confirmed, taking Holmes's hand once more.

((...And Jeannot is probably older than Holmes's great-grandfather, right? THIS IS SO WEIRD. D-: ))

Jeannot nodded, pleased. "Holmes, then," he tried out the name. "And I am Jeannot, to nearly everyone." He laughed and looked up at Gabe again. "Except to Gabe, to whom I am 'bel'." He shook his head and looked back at Holmes consideringly. "Your family is French?"

"Oui," Holmes said, smiling. "My grandmother raised me in large part, you see. I learned both languages at once. I would enjoy seeing your paintings, Jeannot."

"Assurément," Jeannot told Holmes, going a bit pink, and returned his smile. "There are paints in the closet, and I am certain that there is canvas and other material as well." He grinned, elated at the thought of painting whatever he liked while he was here. Jeannot looked back at Holmes, curious again. "You were raised in France, then? Where?" he asked.

"I wasn't trying to get here," Terence said; "perhaps that made the difference?"

"Could be," Gabe replied, not really paying much attention to Terence. He was slightly more interested in Jeannot's sudden shift in mood, and, deciding that Terence would be either too modern or too preoccupied with jam to care, took his love's hand.

Terence proved Gabe correct in his assumption by keeping his mouth shut for once. Fidgeting, he asked, "Everyone is terribly solemn here. Is something wrong?"

Jeannot squeezed Gabe's hand gratefully, glad for his love's support. He glanced at Terence, wondering what he ought to know. "Ah," he began, intelligently, "well. We are here in hiding, you see. Because this man, Moriarty, knows-- something-- which could get Holmes, and therefore the rest of us, into quite a lot of trouble..." He trailed off awkwardly and looked at Holmes, hoping that the Englishman would step in with a better explanation than he'd given.

((I swear to God, I have replied to Callirhoe's post about fifty times. My wireless does not love me. I am sorry for Holmes's apparent paralysis.))

"Indeed we are," Holmes replied, nodding. "I am, surprising as this knowledge may be to you given your knowledge of my life, a criminal in the eyes of the law, although not for any reason you are no doubt considering. We are hidden here in fear of blackmail. Myself, and -" he indicated Watson, who nodded, "- my compatriot."

"He is seventeen," Gabe reminded Holmes. "It wouldn't surprise me if he's read between the lines, and if he's going to be here for any length of time he'll certainly figure it out." He paused, looking over at Terence. "Are you going to hang around, or just crawl back through the cupboards once you have some jam?"

Feb. 17th, 2007 12:52 am (UTC)
Terence grinned. "I've read between the lines. Didn't think it polite to mention." He pondered; "I think I'll stick around. Jam's nice, but I don't know that the cupboard goes both ways." He flushed. "If I'm welcome, anyway."

"You are welcome," Watson said. somewhat put off, "as long as you explain exactly what in my narratives led you to 'read between the lines' and what precisely you found there."

Holmes took a hissing breath in through his teeth, sure that this was not going anywhere appealing.

Terence fidgeted. "It wasn't in your narrative, exactly. It's the way you act together, and the way you said you'd broken a law." He shifted. "I couldn't think of any law you'd break, unless it was a stupid law." He coughed. "You know. Labouchere's law and all that. Did you know it's still around until the nineteen-sixties, in different forms?" Realizing that he was babbling, Terence abruptly shut up.

"No, I did not," Holmes replied, moving in front of Watson in an unconciously protective sort of way. "That is unfortunate."

"Most unfortunate," Watson agreed, smiling slightly more confidently. "And I believe you are indeed welcome to stay, if your views are so modern."

Jeannot squeezed Gabe's hand happily, glad that things were out in the open, or as open as would be entirely comfortable for all involved. "If it is not rude to leave you," he said, looking around at the other men, "I should like to go to the closet and find the painting supplies Gabe mentioned." He smiled at Gabe, happy once more. "Do you mind?" He was asking the whole room, but his words were directed at his love.
