((You have no chance to survive. Make your time.))

Location: Jeannot's bedroom in gay Paree, no pun intended.
Time: Just before dawn.

Sherlock Holmes disliked Paris. He had no real justification for feeling this, other than that the city gave him a feeling of freedom that he found uncomfortable. Sherlock Holmes knew the sodomy laws for almost all of Europe. Paris was distinctly lacking in restrictive sodomy law.

At the moment, Holmes was standing uncomfortably outside of the door to a small, unassuming Parisian apartment. The landlady had allowed him in when he had impressed upon her that it was a matter of utmost importance that he speak to Monsieur Jean-Marie Bonnaire. Holmes thanked God for his education in French, and took a deep breath. He knocked sharply at the door. When this garnered no response, he waited a moment and then knocked again. Still nothing. The detective sighed and moved to the door knob, not expecting it to open. It did, though, and he slipped inside.

He was greeted by the sight of Gabe and Jeannot sleeping peacefully, curled into each other. A shudder of surprise and a perverse pleasure went though him, and he pursed his lips, locking his hands behind his back. For a long minute he stood and stared, thinking of what they had. After a moment, he brushed a hand over his tired face. It slipped over the cut on his left cheek and he winced visibly. Perhaps it was the physical pain that began the tears, but it was certainly the unattainable thing that the two men before him seemed to have achieved that made the tears keep coming. He reached out for the bedpost, and as he did so, his hand grazed Gabe's foot. He flinched and pulled it away, hoping he had not woken him.

Gabe gave a small sigh as he pulled away from Holmes's touch and snuggled in closer to Jeannot. He lay still for a second before slowly opening his eyes, not quite awake, to gaze at Jeannot. He closed his eyes again and placed a soft kiss on his lover's forehead. Pulling away carefully, not wanting to wake Jeannot, he opened his eyes and noticed Holmes, still crying. He froze, trying to recollect the past night, but was unable to come up with any explanation for Holmes's presence. He couldn't come up with any reason he would have forgotten Holmes's arrival, either, and finally cleared his throat, trying to get the other man's attention without waking his lover.

Holmes jumped as Gabe coughed, his thin hand flying away from his face. After a moment in which he stared unabashedly at the two other men, he turned sharply around and faced the opposite wall.

"Gentlemen," he said, a sharp edge of something manic in his Oxford drawl, "please, extract yourselves from the bed, or at least cover yourselves suitably. We have something which must be discussed."

"He's still asleep," Gabe replied, not making any move towards his shirt. "I don't want to wake him," he said, softly, looking at Jeannot fondly. He looked back towards Holmes. "What do you want, anyways? How'd you get in?"

"It's alright, mon bel," Gabe said quietly, trying to reassure Jeannot. "It's just the gentleman from last night, the one whose cravat we borrowed." He smiled at his lover and reached out to caress his cheek. "Do you suppose he wants it back?" he asked, leaning in and kissing him gently.

Holmes's expression tightened at this, but he did his best not to allow it to bother him. "Je suis Monsieur Sherlock Holmes," he replied in Sidhe's mangled French, which you must pretend is very good because he speaks it fluently and oh dear there went the fourth wall, "Please excuse my intrusion." He continued in English, for the benefit of Gabe. "Your landlady allowed me in, M. Bonnaire, after I had some brief discussion regarding the utmost importance of this visit. I find myself in difficulty, you see. And I believe it may be possible that you help me. And actually," he remarked dryly to Gabe, "yes, I do want my cravat back."

"I did follow you, I suppose." The detective shrugged. "It was not difficult. And if you saw nothing, well, that is what you may expect to see when I follow you. But more to the point. I am afraid there is a man, a man who is not very nice, who is presently hot on my trail," Holmes said, needing to restrain himself from nervously glancing over his shoulder. "It is for that reason that I am in need of assistance. Did you perhaps see him earlier? A short, hunched over man, looks like a snake, balding?"

((And with that I must dash off, because I, Sidhe, have a Date. With a Real Boy.))

"If you want your cravat," Gabe replied. "Take it. I'm not exactly sure where it is, I'm afraid. We were a little hurried to get it off last night." He looked at Jeannot and smiled, hoping he would calm down slightly. "As for Moriarty, he showed up after you left and harassed us quite extensively. I had to scandalize him to make him leave, not that it's hard with you types." He paused and then continued, slightly softer. "I didn't tell him anything besides that you were there and had left."

"To answer you in reverse Homeric order," Holmes replied seriously, the graveness of the situation beginning to overpower his natural Victorianism, "that man was, as your friend has so astutely pointed out, Professor James Moriarty. He is the sole owner and controller of the largest criminal empire in England. He was looking for me because he wants to kill me, for a multitude of reasons, and if he cannot kill me, then to ruin my life. And as for how it concerns you. . ." Holmes sighed and ran one hand over his forehead. "I must confess I do not fully understand it all. There are more things in heaven and earth then are dreamed of in our philosophy, it seems. Obviously, this is not the. . .ah, the time that I belong in. Nor does your friend." He nodded curtly to Gabe. "It would seem that the place we visited earlier - you remember, the pub - is something of a crossing point of realities. I -" he paused to collect himself. "I do not understand it." He looked almost defeated for a moment, before adding with all his detective's competence, "It seems we must all three lay low. Moriarty's agents are after you both. They believe you have compromising information regarding myself upon your persons." The redness on his cheeks might have been the faint traces of a blush.

"Well," Gabe replied. "We do." He squeezed Jeannot's hand once before letting go and slipping out of the bed to retrieve their clothes. He passed Jeannot his pants with a smile before slipping on his shirt. "I'm not going to squeal, though." He buttoned up his shirt and then looked back up at Holmes. "So," he said. "How much lower can we lay?"

Holmes looked, puzzled, at Jeannot, then back down to his feet, where Jeannot's eyes seemed to be resting. He noticed the shirt with a certain amount of amusement, then embarrassment. Somewhat awkwardly, he bent to pick it up. Wordlessly, eyes averted, he stepped forward to hand it to Jeannot.

"Yes," Holmes said shortly. "The professor, as I said, maintains a rather large criminal force. Recently, he has discovered certain items of interest as regards my personal affairs. I -" He almost admitted it all, then, but he checked himself, still unsure whether or not he could completely trust Gabe and Jeannot. "Well. In short, I have caused him some inconvenience in the past, and as a consequence, he wishes to be rid of me. If he revealed the information he possesses to the public, I would be very much in trouble."

"M. Bonnaire -" Holmes began, soundly frustrated, with full intentions to explain the exact nature of what Moriarty knew, but again he checked himself. "I - perhaps your friend can illuminate the situation for you, to a certain degree. It. Well. To be entirely plain, M. Bonnaire, I might be said to be in the same boat as yourself and your friend regards the softer emotions." He took a deep breath, then let it out, closing his eyes.

((I feel that you should know that the usage of the word "lover" has broken Holmsie's poor Victorian brain.))

"No, Monsieur Bonnaire, you may not speak plainly," Holmes snapped through gritted teeth, his hands clenching into fists. "I am a man of - of -" He was about to say morals, but stopped. Mostly because to be without morals was evil, and if anyone had ever not looked evil, it was definitely Jeannot. "I. No. No, he is no longer in danger. Which brings me to my point. There is a place of refuge I have discovered - one might say it lies between the worlds. He is there, and if you value your hides you ought to follow me to it as well."

((Apologizes for my and Gabe's absence. I've been a busy boy.))

Gabe looked at Jeannot and shrugged. "I don't see any reason not to go," he said, but sensed Jeannot's uncomfortableness with the entire thing and turned to Holmes. "May we have some time alone to discuss," here he waved his hands vaguely, "this?"

"Certainly," Holmes replied woodenly. "I apologize for the suddenness of it all, but the situation necessitates a certain urgency." He turned sharply and left the room.
